HIP ARTHRITIS
Hip Arthritis Generally occurs in the 50+ age range and begins with pain in the hip joint upon weight bearing, which gradually increases over time to the point where the patient may experience severe pain even when not walking. The patient may feel a sense of clicking and cracking within the hip. Like any other form of Osteoarthritis, the cartilage wears away from the ends of the bones within the joint. This exposes the the raw bones to each other which rub against each other causing inflammation and further degeneration to the joint. The patient may notice putting more weight on the other leg to avoid weight bearing on the affected hip. The hip may develop restrictions movement, particularly flexion of the hip (lifting the knee). Pain may be felt down the front of the thigh to the knee.
WHAT PRACTITIONER AT THE AARK CLINIC SHOULD I SEE?
Osteopathy works very well improving the range of movement of an arthritic joint, focusing on the soft tissue surrounding the joint. This can greatly relieve pain and other symptoms. Medical Acupuncture can also be used in conjunction with Osteopathic treatment with Lloyd Tilney.
