PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Plantar Fasciitis is a very common cause of heel pain, especially in the morning, with pain generally easing within 1 hour, but returning in the evening. Symptoms include a gradual onset of pain under the heel bone, radiating into the foot. Tenderness around the underside of the heel. The Plantar Fascia is a very strong band of tissue that runs from the heel to the front of the foot. An overuse injury, causing increased tension on the plantar fascia, leads to thickening, stiffening and eventual breaking down of the collagen fibres and potentially a bony spur forming on the insertion portion on the heel bone. This can be incredibly painful. Common causes are repetitive actions placed on the ankle joint i.e: jumping, over pronation, running, dancing, high heels to flip flops, poor footwear, obesity or previous injury to the foot.
