SCOLIOSIS
Scoliosis is a complex 3 dimensional condition affecting the spine resulting in a ’S’ or ‘C’ shaped spine. This misshapen spine often causes imbalances in the chest, ribs and low back resulting in problems breathing, headaches, pain and potentially early wear and tear of joints. Scoliosis can be hereditary or acquired. For children it is important to be assessed early in order to implement treatment and exercises to prevent the need for surgery. In many cases the severity of scoliosis can be lessened to a degree. But a customised exercise routine will greatly improve the long term biomechanics of the child’s developing body. For many people it is an ‘Aquired’ condition whereby you have a twisted pelvis from a fall or carrying heavy bags during teenage years, flat feet, leg length discrepencies. This can all develop a Scoliosis. Osteopathic treatment will provide exercises to reduce the progression of scoliosis, increase postural awareness and reduce the pain and deformity.
